Interesting photo don't you think?
It sort of sums up a lot of my feelings today. But it also shows the person's outward feelings as he sits on a stage in front of selected press, to promote what is for all intents and purposes, a fairly low key movie.
But it's a movie that for me, has strummed up controversy already and not because of it's 'explicit scenes of a sexual nature' because trust me, there are other movies out there with far more 'sexual content' in them than Bel Ami. it's how 'some' of his 'fans' have reacted to the movie, as they posted their comments (those luckily enough to see it) up for all the world to see.
I feel at times this fandom should be filled with overly hormonal teenagers; who see a man that fulfils all their fantasies - all tall, dark and dreamy. When in actually fact, it's mostly filled with (slightly older) women, who objectify an actor based solely on what they want to do with him. Then practically pant in the aisles of every movie he has done so far, that calls for the removal of his clothing. I am by far NOT a prude granny; who sits and tsks away at the 'generation of today' and how they view movies or celebrities in general. In fairness i too can stand up and say 'Yes Rob Pattinson is an attractive young man' but to then slobber over visual stimulation of seeing his 'butt crack' or muscled ripped shoulders; being all mean and moody, as he dry humps his co-stars - please!!
Most who are interested in Rob's career, will know the movie is in it's essence, a little controversial - he is certainly no meek minded Edward Cullen. (thank god) The depth of character and how low he will stoop to get what he wants, is by far the most dark Rob has ever gone for a character - next to Cosmopolis, which looks to be an absolute destructive role which i personally am looking forward to seeing. Unfortunately, all i am seeing so far, from those privileged enough to actually get a chance to watch this movie, is nothing short of a bunch of male teens; sitting in a school bathroom with a copy of 'playboy' as they giggle with embarrassment and a bit of lewd bravado, in seeing women's breasts and naked parts they can only ever dream of getting anywhere near in their distant future.
I am not saying that the movie doesn't bring out the perverted in most of us women, as we fan ourselves and the gorgeous display of male testosterone but come on, not one comment that i saw actually spoke about his talent as an actor - they were more interested in how many times Rob got 'naked or as good as' and how many times he 'angrily thrusted against the actress'
This is the main reason i believe some of his 'fans' and i choose that word loosely, will never actually take him serious as an actor. Yet at the same time, go ballistic when a critic shoots his movie down or his acting?
WE all need to calm the 'fangirling' down. I can appreciate a good looking actor just as much as the next person, but i appreciate their talents of putting across a believable character more, and this is what Rob is trying to do in the movies he makes.
It's the same for Kristen. I have loved the movies she has done; in each of them she comes across raw and full of emotion. Of course, she has been doing it a bit longer than Rob, but that doesn't stop the fact that she puts her heart and soul into a role and it shows. For me, Rob tries to do that as well. He has grown SO much since he came to LA - held favour with the fans and because the attention was placed on his head, has thankfully and successfully landed roles that give a greater span of just how 'talented' acting wise he is. My problem in all of this is objectification on both their parts. The same people who hold Rob's nakedness in interest are also speculating just how 'graphic' Kristen's 'sex scenes' will be in the movie 'On The Road' I mean sorry but again, i don't want to call myself 'old fashioned and a prude' but to suggest that you are really only interested in the sex scenes, suggests you are objectifying the actor and getting off on their characters 'getting off'.
I want to see both Rob and Kristen doing movies and agreeing to characters they want to play, because they can bring to life that character and play it with believability and conviction. It doesn't occur to me whether they have a 'bedroom scene' or not in the movie, as long as the end justifies the means. I would love it if the majority of their fans respect this and respect the hard work they put into their movies. Bel Ami is small budget and low key. It was not made to be a huge box office hit, it's a remake of a story that has been done before. But this time with the right actors, the right settings and of course, a very good script. Rob has i believe, transformed and brought to life the deliciously diabolical Georges Duroy and with only a look he can make a women swoon, never mind having to take his 'kit off'
I want to see Rob taken seriously as an actor, i want to see him feel that pride and sense the accomplishment because of that hard work. He is trying to shake off the Edward Cullen role, some might find that annoying that he can simply walk away and remove the skin of a character that has brought him so much attention, but i feel the only way you can make it in this business is not to be shy and take chances and both Rob and Kristen as actors, are all for that.
Becoming...
Philosophically wise; becoming means 'nothing in this world is constant, except for change or 'becoming'
Rob is willing to change and grow from that change. He is willing to take risks and accept the responsibilities from doing so.
Through the process of 'rebirth' as noted in both Grecian and Buddhism philosophies - this is a process we all go through, learn from past mistakes and go forward.
If you are going to watch 'Bel Ami' please watch it with an open mind. There is nothing but praise for Rob and his fellow actors in this movie. Don't just see it as an excuse to get your 'rocks off' watching him fool around with the actresses playing their respectful parts, but as Georges Duroy; singularly a disgusting and selfish man. Who goes through a journey of self destruction and pity, to come out the other side - quintessentially transformed. Climbing over everything and everyone in power who looked down upon him, to get his way.
Appreciate the story and what happens and refrain from acting like you are in a strip club for the very first time - Bel Ami is not meant to be looked at that way.
